New Board Structure and Composition

Dear Partners,

On October 25, 2022, the RBM Partnership to End Malaria Board held a special meeting to make decisions related to the Partnership’s governance structures. After five months of extensive consultations with partners and key stakeholders—a process that was supported by Bridges to Development—this meeting marked a key juncture for the evolution of the RBM Partnership.

During the special meeting, the Board adopted a new hybrid structure and established processes to facilitate a Board transition between now and the start of the second quarter of next year.

Below is a preview of the Board Decision Points that will be elaborated on at partner briefings on November 9th and 10th.

Board Structure & Composition

The Board adopted a new hybrid structure, combining representational constituency-based and independent seats. The hybrid structure is expected to allow the Board to leverage key perspectives from the global malaria community while also ensuring the Board has access to expertise and independent voices. The Board shall also ensure that at least half of its members shall represent malaria-affected countries at all times.

The new Board composition will reflect the following constituency groups: malaria-affected countries, key investors in the fight against malaria, civil society, private sector, science and research sector, the World Health Organization, and the hosting agency, currently UNOPS.

Over the next few months, Board leadership and the interim CEO will approach constituency groups to establish processes for nominating representatives, ensuring that new Board members are appointed in time for a formal transition to take place by the second quarter of 2023.

Please join us for a briefing to learn more about the Board’s decisions and next steps at one of two sessions on November 9th and 10th:

We look forward to updating you on these critical next steps for a stronger RBM Partnership. If you have any questions, please contact boardaffairs@endmalaria.org.

Kind regards,
