O controlo dos vectores reduz rapidamente a transmissão da malária e é crucial para a sua eliminação. No entanto, os progressos a nível mundial estagnaram e uma abordagem do tipo "business as usual" só fará com que os países se afastem ainda mais do caminho. As alterações climáticas, a resistência aos insecticidas, as lacunas de financiamento e os recursos limitados de monitorização ameaçam o progresso.

É urgente inovar e criar novas ferramentas para melhorar o controlo económico e sustentável dos vectores. O Grupo de Trabalho de Controlo de Vectores (VCWG) impulsiona a investigação, operacionaliza as prioridades de controlo de vectores e promove a colaboração entre programas nacionais, universidades e o sector privado. Ao envolver as Redes Regionais, o VCWG assegura que as necessidades locais moldam as estratégias globais.

Num ambiente de recursos limitados, a partilha de conhecimentos é fundamental. A diversidade de membros do VCWG permite um diálogo rico, reforçando as intervenções essenciais (mosquiteiros tratados com inseticida, pulverização residual interior), expandindo a caixa de ferramentas de controlo de vectores e fazendo avançar a Resposta Global de Controlo de Vectores da OMS. Proporciona uma plataforma para as partes interessadas alinharem os desafios, lacunas e oportunidades no controlo de vectores.
